Ways to Cultivate Turkish-Greek Relations
Turks and Greeks..Two nations that have been living together in the same geography more than 900 years.Harmony,symphony and common culture..They shared a culture by living happily and in good relations,but what made them seperated and (so called) enemy?This is an ironic subject.When we focus on the events that had happened during two centuries,that’s so clear to see all the events causing by imperialist states.But these two nations stil couldn’t understand what games have been played on them and how they are deceived.It’s time to wake up and see the truth!
Starting with French Revolution,all the empires was affected by the nationalism movement.Especially Ottoman and Austria-Magyar empires were the ones that this movement affected a lot.Greeks,Serbians,Bulgarians took their independences from the the poweless Ottoman Empire at the collapse period of it.Then,a century lasted with the wars,after a century,another big reaction.Greece was deceived by imperialists under PanHellenism idea,Megali Idea and at the end,a big campaign in Asia Minor..Now think that a troubled,restless area around us was useful for who?For Turks or Greeks?Of course not….That was useful just for imperialists.Because enemy states and restless make everything easy for them to reach their rights by using us…The same game was played in Cyprus and another fiasco.How many people know some states were selling guns to kill Cypriots theirselves?Do you think these two nations that were living in peace for years deserved this?While we are arming,those imperialists are becoming happier to make here unstable and to become richer by selling guns to us.But what about us?Just the tension between us is rising.So that’s time to cultivate our relations not to come to these kinds of traps again.Here are the ways i propose to improve:
1.Cultural Communication
Our culture is almost the same and probably this is the best speciality to make us closer.We can expose our culture and arrange cultural organizations between us.Luckily,recently this has been noticed by all people and started arranging cultural organizations.In the following years,i think these will be more.
2.Transport
This is one of the most important ways,i think.Because to obtain the cultural communication,transport conditions and destinations should be beter and more..For examle,half of Greek Macedonia and Thessaloniki(Selanik) is originally from the Aegean Region of Asia Minor and half of Izmır(Smyrni) and its around is originally from Greek Macedonia and Thessaly.But unfortunately there is no direct flight between Thessaloniki and İzmir,nor betwwen Atheans and İzmir.Another problem is getting visa.While Greek people are able to visit Turkey with just and ID,Turkish people have to get a visa by collecting more than 50 documents and reports.This prevents Turkish-greek relations to get beter although there is no logical reason to restrict to visit Greece.
3.Alliance of States
While Greek and Turkish nations are getting closer,this will be reflected to the politicians to solve the political issues through more optimistic ways and will remove all the problems between states,not the nations because there is already no problem between nations,slow by slow.
4.Solidarity of Turkish and Greek Immıgrants Abroad
There are many Turks and Greek living in the countries such as the USA,the UK,Germany,the Netherlands,Australia..These groups of immigrants can come together and create a powerful loby together.They can be voice of Greece and Turkey abroad together.
However these all will come true ,one day.Our aim should be to make this more quickly by not coming to traps of others.Anyway Turkish-Greeks friendship is like an arrow thrown from its bow as i always say!
